{happy weekend!}

Woah.  How is it the last week of June already??  Slow down summer!  We’re preparing for another scorcher of a weekend here in DC, but I’m planning to spend most of the weekend indoors with nursery projects – from painting to putting the crib together!  After thinking about the layout for weeks, I’m so excited to see the room finally come together.  But in the meantime…

…a few links for your weekend!

As usual, we have a fun cocktail coming up for you this afternoon, so check back a bit later for the recipe!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday!  xoxo

Rachael + Brian’s Woodland and Fabric Wedding Invitations

Kraft paper and white ink is such a fabulous combination – perfect for a variety of design styles from modern to rustic.  Designer Rachael Ward decided to combine kraft paper, white ink screen printing, and fabric for her woodland wedding invitations.  So pretty!

From Rachael: As a graphic designer and crafter, I knew I wanted to design something that incorporated fabric and gave our guests a peek into our wedding style.  Inspiration came mostly from the location of the wedding, Krippendorf Lodge located within the Cincinnati Nature Center at Rowe Woods.

The overall wedding theme was a combination of vintage and woodland styles.  The color palette was loosely based on robins egg blue, blush pink, ivory, and brown.  The invitations were screen printed using white ink on French Paper‘s 100 lb Speckletone Cover in Kraft.  Then they were wrapped with either a blue or pink floral fabric from Joann Fabric to match the color palette.  A reply card was tied around each card with a coordinating ribbon.

These romantic, vintage, and woodsy invites were perfect for our small wedding.  The combination of paper and fabric made quite an impact on our guests!

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone!  This week practically flew by for me – but we’ve been keeping busy behind the scenes with lots of baby-related projects, some of which I hope to share here soon!  I finally started to feel tiny baby kicks a couple of weeks ago and they’ve been getting stronger ever since; it’s still so funny to look down and see my belly actually move from a particularly strong kick!  This weekend I’m looking forward to a movie date with friends and picking a paint color for the nursery.  But in the meantime…

Seth + Summer’s Modern Woodland Screen Printed Wedding Invitations

Now these are FUN wedding invitations – and I love the combination of modern illustration with a rustic woodland design theme!  Michael Casebolt of Casebolt Design + Illustration created these wedding invitations for good friends Seth and Summer, building his design from their love for western North Carolina.  The invitations were screen printed in two colors on the front and three colors inside by the talented folks of Mama’s Sauce.  Love!

From Seth: Summer and I both strive for perfection.  When it came to our wedding invitations we had very high expectations, to say the least.  Knowing our limitations, we contacted our friend Mike – designer/illustrator extraordinaire!  Summer and I met with Mike and presented our (very) rough sketch and flickr inspiration set.  We discussed our interest in national parks and our connections to western North Carolina and gave him free reign to have fun.

After only a short time of not knowing what to expect we received our first glimpse of Mike’s work: the two front panels of the invitation.  It was everything we had envisioned and more!  It made me WANT to open the flaps and see what was inside.  We told him it was awesome, urged him to continue, and patiently waited for what was to come.

Elaborating on the exterior look and tying together every loose end we had pitched him, Mike nailed it!  All the elements were included in one cohesive illustration that really defined our ideal wedding.  We were very pleased with Mike’s work and impressed with his ability to merge our concept with his playful style.

Thanks Mike!

Inspired By: Papercuts!

I’ve been in love with papercut pieces as long as I can remember, as any longtime readers will know from my love for all things Rob Ryan.  I’m completely in awe of this stunning technique (the precision! the patience!) and the even more stunning results.  So today I’m rounding up a few of my favorite papercut pieces, from artwork to baby announcements.

No. 1 Rob Ryan; No. 2 Dinara Mirtalipova (originally posted here); No. 3 Woodland Papercuts; No. 4 Elizabeth Messina; No. 5 Helen Musselwhite; No. 6 Julene Harrison

And speaking of Rob Ryan, he just released his 2012 Valentine’s Day print!  This year, Rob is offering a beautiful screen print in burgundy ink on off-white paper.  Check out all three designs right here.  So gorgeous!
