Here’s how to make the magnolias:

Step 1 + 2. Cut out six large petals using your cream crepe paper, stretch the paper grain to form a deep, bowl shape. Place hot glue at the bottom of three large petals and adhere them, as outlined in the diagram below.

Step 3 + 4. Fold the bottoms of the three remaining large petals, to provide a deeper bowl shape and a little bit more body then the last.

Step 5. Hot glue the three new petals on top of the original three large petals, alternating to form a flower shape.

Step 6 + 7. Cut three small petals using your cream crepe paper, stretch the paper grain to form a deep, bowl shape. Just like your large petals, fold the bottoms of your small petals to provide a deeper bowl shape and give them a little bit more body!

Step 8. Glue the small petals on top of the large petals, alternating where the last petals were placed.

Step 9 + 10. Cut out one bud, using your cream crepe paper. Stretch the paper grain of your bud to form a smooth square.

Step 11. Scrunch a small piece of scrap paper into a tight ball. Adhere your the scrap paper ball on top of your polystyrene sphere with a dab of hot glue. Cover the polystyrene sphere using your bud square, twisting the excess crepe paper at the bottom. Paint the bud gold using liquid gold leaf. Once dry, trim the bottom of the bud.

Step 12. Place hot glue at the bottom of the bud and adhere to the center of your flower!

Hustling this November? I feel you, friend. It seems I blinked and mashed potatoes, turkey, and gravy are already threatening my near future. So instead of creating our usual paper flowers this month, I’m sharing a fun DIY tutorial for a crepe paper feather Thanksgiving centerpiece using fresh fall colors and breezy blues. Enjoy!  –Rachael

To Create the Crepe Paper Feathers

Step 1. Cut a piece of Bright White Crepe Paper 10″ high by 12″ wide. Make sure the paper grain is running vertically. Stretch the crepe paper grain like an accordion, making the surface a little bit smoother to begin painting!

Step 2. Get messy and watercolor the entire surface of your white crepe paper. Let dry.

Step 3. Cut strips from your dry crepe paper approximately 5″ wide. The paper grain should be running vertically. Fold the 5″ strips in half vertically. Add a small amount of hot glue on the inside center of the paper, place your floral wire, and press shut.

Step 4. Using scissors, taper the top and bottom of your paper strip to create a feather shape. Add finishing touches by fringing the paper feather at a downward diagonal. The wire will act as your guide to keep things nice and center. For an extra fancy glimmer of metallic, use liquid gold leaf.

Fresh Cut Paper Flowers: Ranunculus

I’ll take a room full of ranunculus, please! I tend to love these blooms overflowing in large vases, but my new ceramic whiskey jug was just begging to be used. A dainty grouping on the porch is equally adorable, wouldn’t you agree? The best thing about paper flowers… your favorite variety doesn’t have to be in season to make a statement at home. Cheers to taking in some ranunculus goodness in the middle of Autumn, friends! – RachaelFresh Cut Paper Flowers: Ranunculus / Appetite Paper for Oh So Beautiful Paper

DIY Watercolor and Crepe Paper Poppy Escort Cards

I’m holding onto summer with a death grip, can you tell? Nothing beats bright colors, even if August is coming to a close! Step 1. Create the paper poppies in an array of colors. Make sure to create an amount that reflects the number of guests you’re expecting! Place the paper poppies in bottles and arrange in rows. I just love these apothecary bottles!

Step 2. Paint a 9″ x 12″ piece of watercolor paper with watercolor paint, one color on each side. I chose teal on one side and blush on the other!

Step 3. Lightly mark six 4″ squares on the sheet of watercolor paper using a ruler and pencil. Draw a diagonal line through each square. Using a ruler and an open pair of scissors (be careful!) or a bone folder lightly score straight up the middle of each square. Cut out each 4″ square, then cut along the diagonal line to create the triangle.

Step 4. Write your guests’ names in gold ink. Fold the corner of the escort card up along the previously scored line. Write the corresponding table number on the inside flap, to be revealed as your guest unfolds! Place the escort card under a glass bottle with a crepe paper poppy – and voila!
