Three Years
05/25/2011Three years ago I married my best friend. We stood up in front of our closest family and friends, broke some glass, and had a fabulous celebration that we’ll remember for the rest of our lives. Three years later I feel incredibly grateful to have this amazing man in my life – someone who sends me love letters, tells me how proud he is of me, supported me as I ventured off on an entirely new and uncertain career path, and who loves me more than I ever thought possible.
This year’s anniversary is a little bittersweet as it’s the first time that we’re unable to celebrate the occasion together. Right now I’m just looking forward to the day that he’s safely back home and I feel like a complete person again. Only 70 or so days to go!
I love you and miss you my darling, and I can’t wait until you’re home with me. Happy anniversary.

Today I love… Our Trip to Italy
05/14/2011“Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone” - John Steinbeck
I feel like the Steinbeck quote applies to our entire two weeks in Italy. I’ve been home for nearly two weeks and the entire trip still feels like an amazing dream. Above all, it was so wonderful to see my husband after three months apart, but heartbreakingly difficult to say goodbye for another three months when it came time to come back home. We visited Sorrento, Positano, and Rome, started each day with the most delicious cappuccinos, ate gelato every afternoon, had the most amazing pizzas we’ve ever tasted, and did an absolutely insane amount of walking in each city. Here are a few highlights from our trip…
Sorrento…
So much wisteria I could barely stand it…
Positano…
The view from our hotel room at the Villa delle Palme – so perfect…
Rome…
Vatican City…
We visited Rome and The Vatican just a couple days before the beatification of Pope John Paul II – the city was totally packed!

03/24/2011…spring! It may have been cold and overcast yesterday here in DC, but it’s officially spring and I couldn’t be happier to finally say goodbye to winter. Also excited for the official start of spring? The cherry blossom trees! They literally burst into bloom overnight a couple days ago, just in time for the official Cherry Blossom Festival that starts next week. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to bask in the glow of my favorite pale pink blossoms before the huge tourist crowds get here, so my mom and I went down for quick a walk around the the Tidal Basin.
It’s amazing how these tiny little blossoms can make me so happy, and this even before the lilacs and peonies start to bloom! Can you tell that spring is my favorite season of the year?
