Valentina + Marco’s Ireland-Inspired Italian Wedding Invitations

09/14/2010

Today’s wedding invitations come to us all the way from Italy, but were actually inspired by Ireland!  The bride, Valentina, is a graphic designer and found herself a bit stumped when it came time to design her own wedding invitations.  So she turned to a sentimental favorite and created a modern wedding invitation suite full of beautiful green and brown hues.

From Valentina: Since I’m a graphic designer, I always imagined that I would create something that clearly represents ourselves for our wedding invitations.  In this case, my job did not help me out since every new idea appeared to me too common for a couple of graphic designers.

We chose to create a modern invitation with graphic lines and colours. Ireland was our primary inspiration, our nest away over the Channel, background of many vacations but most important for our wedding vows.  Our love of nature inspired the rest of the design.

The wedding invitations were the beginning of the entire project. I choose a modern white paper combined with green and brown design elements.  Ceremony invitations were sent with a wrapper showing an Ireland Gaelic wish.  All of this, with small hand-punched four-leaf clovers, was sealed in an envelope with a round sticker with our initials.

Later, with the same graphic design, after lots of patience and with miles of ribbon, we created restaurant menus, wedding booklet, maps for the guests with green ribbons, tags of the reserved seat in plexiglass, tableau and thanksgiving cards for favors.

For the ceremony rice bags and the guestbook I took Martha Stewart as inspiration.  We used green note cards, transparent envelopes, and 50 pencils hand covered with green paper purchased in Dublin.  Glassine paper bags were filled with rice and four-leaf clovers and handsewn with green wire from the groom’s Grandmother.
