Amber + Sean’s Rustic Wedding Invitations
08/02/2010Good morning, and Happy Monday! We had the most gorgeous weekend here in DC, and I’m hoping this little taste of fall weather will hold out for just a few more days. But whether you’re reveling in summer or also looking forward to the arrival of fall, you’ll love these robin’s egg blue wedding invitations complete with two of my favorite design details – stripes and twine! Amber worked with the ever-fabulous Jessica from JessLehry Designs (and a little ol’ blog you may have heard of called The Budget Savvy Bride) to create a lovely vintage-meets-rustic wedding invitation design:
From Amber: I told Jess that I wanted a rustic- and vintage-inspired invitation using robin’s egg blue (not exactly the color that comes to mind when you think rustic) with bird accents. What a tall order!
We decided to go ahead and focus on creating the invite with vintage fonts, shapes, and colors, and use kraft paper envelopes and twine to add the rustic element.
I love the mix of fonts she chose for the invitation! It was sort of like looking at an old-fashioned carnival poster. I wasn’t sure it would be possible to create an invitation incorporating two such distinct looks, but Jess totally nailed it!
I felt the invitations were a glimpse of what was to come on the big day. The kraft paper envelopes led to burlap table runners that we used during the reception and the vintage design inspired us to use wooden coca-cola crates in the cupcake display.
When the invitations were complete, we started to incorporate bird accents on the tote bags, escort cards, menus, etc. to coordinate with the table decor. It was a subtle trend, and I think Jess really made it flow!
Amber worked with Jess so that she could have the invitations printed locally, ensuring that each piece of Amber’s wedding stationery – from the invitations to the escort cards – was printed on the same paper stock and in the exact same shade of robin’s egg blue. Congratulations Amber (and Jess!) they look fantastic!

I adore this! I design wedding invites and other pieces as well so it always warms my heart when other designers and brides “get it.” I think starting with a design and then carrying it all the way through to the little touches in the reception really make a wedding. It adds a really look to everything and a sense of personality. Bravo Jess and Amber!
How gorgeous-I love the blue!
love love love that envelope and the blue stripes. these invitations are a total dream.
Fun typography! And, love, love those tote bags: so happy and a great way to tie all of the wedding pieces together.
