Vintage-Inspired Typography Save the Dates

06/28/2010

I love invitations that tell a story, either figuratively through graphics and images or literally through text – check out more evidence here and here.  Jen from Two Paperdolls designed these save the dates for her sister’s upcoming wedding, incorporating the bride and groom’s history into a playful design with vintage-inspired graphic elements:

The bride and groom were high school sweethearts who reunited after college – such a sweet story!

Jen’s main design influences were Texas-inspired shabby chic and the groom’s love of vintage music posters – and I love the result!  Check out more over at Louella Court.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful wedding stationary! So unique, so different, quirky and personal, yet impeccably well done. Invitations are so powerful; they are the crucial “first impression” that create excitement and impetus for a memorable affair. Guests knew they were in for a very special celebration from the moment they received these invitations, and I love, love, LOVE the “save the date” hang tags. I’m already married so I don’t need wedding stationary, but for a brief moment I was tempted to have another child just so I could hire Jen to design birth announcements for me!

I love stories like this one! My oldest friend and her husband were each other’s first boyfriend and girlfriend, in late middle school/early high school. They parted ways, went to college in different states, and lived apart for years, only to reconnect and fall in love all over again. Their Save The Dates? A copy of the photo from a Busch Gardens roller coaster camera when they were 15, sitting side by side and about to go over the cliff… Talk about appropriate imagery!
